How to become a professional model ?

Whenever you think of a model the first thing that comes to anyone’s mind is tall, bold, thin, handsome –yes this is the normal perception about the modeling industry that floats in the market,
Surprisingly the industry is much more deeply professional than being a mannequin to walk the ramp. We all know that modeling these days is not at all easy. These days it’s not only the good looks and the angle, but there is something more which comprises etiquettes, mannerism and strict professionalism towards the work.
The designers these days are really conscious about the theme and their label, so they chose the models wisely. The leading fashion shows of India, conducts audition with ace panelists from different walks of life including fashion photography, grooming, designing and choreography. So, walking on the ramp is no more a cakewalk, you should always remember some of the key highlights to crack it and make it to the runway and endorsements.

First and Foremost you need to decide the medium you wish to work for:

Runway model: For this, girls need to be 5’9 and with prefect cat walk training. Boys are mostly considered between 5’11-6’2 with proper physiques.
Print Model: Editorial shoots call for 5’7 with an appealing personality and photogenic face off course.
Swimwear model: You need to have well-developed breasts and toned hips and for men broad shoulder with slim waist is perfect for a swimwear shoot.
Promotional Model: Some companies want their customer base to interact directly with models that are generally attractive with good personalities to promote their brand. These models are seen is malls, various stores, clubs where they promote things like food, liquor brand or various other new products

Knowledge Grooming:
The modeling industry is no doubt filled with plenty pretty faces. Just because you are good looking does not mean that you can succeed as a model. You need to be socially aware and your knowledge about the fashion world happening is inevitable. it is not just about looking great. Modeling is only for serious people who possess unique looks and characteristics. Since there are so many agencies and middlemen involved in this sector that at times you might get misguided and misused too.So proper knowledge is very essential. Be very careful of the fraud model agencies and people asking for MONEY for registrations.

.
Know your vitals:
This is all about knowing your body measurement and personal stats. And it includes:
·    Measurements like height, weight, and shoe size
·    Clothing measurements :shoulder, chest, waist, thighs, hips
·    Hair color, eye color, skin tone, skin type.

Professional touch and shot:
It is very obvious that getting a portfolio shoot is expensive, but that does not mean you can skip it. Professional photography, even if it is expensive, will give you a better idea of what kind of look you give off. You may eventually need these photographs to snag an interview, so think of it as a worthwhile investment! Not only that you will definitely get a lot of exposure.
·    Get your portfolio shoot done with a renowned photographer (preferably fashion photographer) so that it becomes easy for you to start your career.
·    If you’ve got enough of these photos, consider putting everything into a portfolio, or “book.” Mail it to the concerned agencies and also carry a portfolio while visiting casting agents.

Get associated with an agency:

Though freelance modeling is very much in trend, but it is preferred to those who have built a name in the industry. If you are a fresher, it is advisable to get associated with an agency, (like GNG models ) as it exposes you to work in a professional manner. When visiting an agency follow these:

·    Bring your snapshots and/or portfolio. They will often ask you to walk or pose for them. They may take a head shot or take your measurements as well.
·    Be cautious about the charges sharing, it is advisable to keep a tap on the rules and be in touch with someone trust worthy to avoid being cheated.

Be very careful of the fraud model agencies and people asking for MONEY for registrations.

Be professional, polite, and courteous:
Though it is not your office where you go everyday for work, over here you need to be really professional. Treat people, you work with respect. You never know who they know or what sort of recommendation they might give you. You may be a model, but that doesn’t give you any right to be snooty, affected, or pompous.

Be creative:
The fashion and modeling industry is all about being creative, fun and yes of course some hard work. Photographers want to see you pose in various styles and expressions with different props and backdrop. So changes are very essential, work for the camera and interact with the world around you.
